To the north of Cali, you will reach Hacienda El Paraíso, located in El Cerrito. This beautifully preserved 19th-century country house holds the love story that Jorge Isaacs immortalized in his novel ‘María’. The mansion was the setting for the romance between Efraín and María, which ended with her death just days before her lover returned from Europe to visit her.
The landscape of Valle del Cauca, covered by sweet sugarcane plantations, seen from the Hacienda, the proximity of the mountains, rivers, lush trees, the warm and pleasant climate, and the incredible freshness of its air, make this place a destination that visitors return to time and time again.
Hacienda El Paraíso is an excellent example of the traditional architecture of the spacious houses with high ceilings from the large estates of the Valle del Cauca region.
Located at the foot of the hills of the Western Mountain Range, the Hacienda offers a beautiful view of the green plain, adorned by vast sugarcane plantations and giant saman trees.
The Hacienda occupies 120 hectares, where in addition to the Museum House, which also features a souvenir shop, a photographic studio from the era, a café, and a parking lot, you will find the Piedemonte Hostel with 26 cozy chalets, natural running water swimming pools, a restaurant serving typical regional cuisine, horse rentals, green areas, and event spaces, such as weddings.
